Concept

The aim of the design was to create a unified lighting image in the various (playful) environments of the university. It was important to meet the Estimada standards*. The lighting design was extensively researched to keep light pollution to a minimum and get the best lighting power density. 

*Estidama is the Arabic translation for sustainability. It is an important aspect of the “Abu Dhabi Vision 2030”, where (new) construction in Abu Dhabi must meet the new innovative, sustainable standards.

Solution

Triolight was asked to create custom made, casted and stainless steel LED light fixtures in the shape of a triangle. The luminaires were seamlessly integrated into the similarly shaped paving of the square in front of the university. When night falls, the square really comes to life and underlines the unique identity of the building.

Award winning light solution

The 5th edition of the Light Middle East Awards brought together 700 industry professionals to meet the best architects and lighting designers, including UMAYA Lighting Design – a successful lighting design firm from Dubai, Barcelona and Buenos Aires. They won the coveted Exterior Lighting Project of the Year award for their outstanding work at Khalifa University.
